ZenCash – “Dashifying” Zcash
The best organizations have simple goals that have major impact. They also have great people resilient enough to get the job done. Zen has both, which is what makes the project so interesting and convinced me to work on it full-time.
The ZenCash White Paper dives deep into our philosophy, motivations, and goals, but sometimes it’s best to say things simply. We’re working to “Dashify” Zcash. What that means is that we’re leveraging the best privacy technology, zk-SNARKS pioneered in cryptocurrency with the Zerocash white paper and first implemented by Zcash, and we’re integrating a Treasury model with decentralized governance.
That’s cool and all, but we’re doing that with the mindset of making ZenCash one of the most usable cryptocurrencies out there. At launch, we announced a partnership with CakeCodes to integrate ZEN into their gaming network of hundreds of thousands of users. We’re also working on user-friendly wallets, integrations with merchant payment services, and real-life ambassador programs focusing on social entrepreneurship.
There’s a lot to unpackage, but we start with a simple vision, make sure that what we’re doing is useful to the broader community, and then bring the right people in to get the job done.
Besides the usual suspects you’ve come to know and love on the Core Team and DAO–Rolf, Jane, and yours truly–we have Steven Nerayoff stepping up and adding huge value in leadership. As a serial entrepreneur, futurist, and integral part of Ethereum Classic and Lisk, his experience, insights, and just positive attitude has been invaluable in these early stages.
We’re also fortunate enough to have Charles Hoskinson as an advisor, his depth of experience in blockchain projects hard to overstate in helping found Bitshares, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, and CEO of IOHK, the most sophisticated blockchain R&D firm in the world. Additionally, we’ve benefited tremendously from the depth of industry expertise and relentless work ethic of Carlo Vicari, who also works for IOHK and is a Community Manager for Ethereum Classic.
To add to the dream team, Zen has the leading public relations firm in the industry, Wachsman PR, already providing invaluable support. Having such a world-class team helping with media relations and Zen’s strategic brand development will pay dividends for a long time.
On the development front, we’ve had an active team with us from the start (@anarch3, @cronic, @smrtz, @lukas et al) who have all stepped up tremendously since the sudden departure of our prior lead dev, Josh, and a crack team of C++ devs from IOHK’s Team Veritas to add a few PhDs and a whole lot of additional experience to the mix.
