ZenCash released the Secure Node system in December 2017, and the network reached 8,000+ nodes in only 3 months!
The ZenCash Secure Nodes have a different purpose than most other node systems, and are used as more than just proof of stake. ZenCash Secure Nodes have additional security requirements that compliment our privacy protocol to ensure network-to-network communication is encrypted.
ZenCash Secure Nodes is a feature that provides an end-to-end secure, private, and resilient ecosystem to our users all over the globe.
In addition, the ZenCash Secure Nodes are used to monitor the overall network and perform additional health checks. In the future, they will provide secure services for users, such as offloading the memory intensive parts of generating Z_Addresses, obfuscating web traffic endpoints using Domain Fronting, serving the Proving Keys, and hosting Zen services so that no one at the DAO can actually do anything malicious (without network adoption).
Future applications built onto the ZenCash Secure Node network include ZenPub, our distributed file storage system and ZenGrid, distributed computing for rent, which will make use of the resilient and massively distributed node architecture. We also don’t want to artificially induce scarcity by locking up tons of ZEN in the Secure Nodes.
